چکیده

Abstract Introduction The association between nasal measures and polygsomnography is modest. However, treatment can improve sleep quality in people without apnea. of apnea clinical patients with unknown. Our primary hypothesis that the subjective obstruction associated reduced apnea-specific life at baseline after 6 months. Methods This prospective cohort study included newly diagnosed who were prescribed CPAP. Data collected before CPAP months later, including validated Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE, range 0-100, higher worse) scale Symptoms Nocturnal & Related Events (SNORE-25, 0-5, instrument. Additional measures, covariates collected. We tested multivariate linear regression, adjusting for important confounding variables. Results (N=242) was middle-aged (47+/-12 years), both sexes (65% men), had severe (apnea-hypopnea index 33+/-24 events/hour). NOSE strongly SNORE-25, independent demographics, comorbidity, severity: beta 18, 95% CI 15-22, p<0.001, meaning every unit SNORE-25 increase there an adjusted score 18. 6-month changes associated, severity, use: 17, 95%CI 13-22, p<0.001. Secondary but polysomnography not associated. Conclusion are treatment, while measure. These data support importance airway on outcomes. Nasal resistance in obstructive sleep apnea.

BACKGROUND Acute increases in nasal resistance are known to induce upper airway occlusion in predisposed subjects. With the limited efficacy of nasal surgery alone in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), the relevance of chronically increased nasal resistance in the pathophysiologic features of OSA remains undetermined. METHODS Seventy-one patients with OSA (apnea+hypopnea index > ...

Does nasal decongestion improve obstructive sleep apnea?

Whether nasal congestion promotes obstructive sleep apnea is controversial. Therefore, we performed a randomized placebo-controlled cross-over trial on the effects of topical nasal decongestion in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) and nasal congestion. Twelve OSA patients with chronic nasal congestion (mean +/- SD age 49.1 +/- 11.1 years, apnea/hypopnea index 32.6 +/- 24.5/h)...

Nasal Involvement in Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome

Numerous studies have reported an association between nasal obstruction and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), but the precise nature of this relationship remains to be clarified. This paper aimed to summarize data and theories on the role of the nose in the pathophysiology of sleep apnea as well as to discuss the benefits of surgical and medical nasal treatments. A number of pathophysiol...
